Following the release of his debut album, “Fly Softly”, Toronto-based clarinetist and saxophonist Jacob Gorzhaltsan is excited to bring his latest project to Ottawa for an evening of original music and jazz. Jacob’s new full-length record (released in early December) features all original compositions, which combine his passion for jazz and improvisation as well as showcasing his influences in Klezmer and World music.

His quartet is comprised of a cast of highly innovative and interactive musicians, all of which can be heard regularly entertaining and performing for audiences across Canada and the United States. Infusing the traditional vocabulary of the jazz idiom with the sinuous melodies and driving rhythms of the Middle-East, the J-G Quartet seeks to create a transformative soundscape that engages both the very casual listener and the most avid music fan . . . and doesn’t leave either behind in the dust!

A focal part of music for the J-G Quartet is the audience, as well as its participation/involvement during the music process, and especially the mutual transfer of energy and understanding between performer and audience through creative expression. Jacob’s music is a celebration of this vital moment in the arts, where performer and audience member meet in perfect exposure and communicate through a vast sonic spectrum of emotions and energy.
