K.E.W.T is a musical duo made up of pianist Kathryn Elizabeth Briggs and finger-style guitarist William Terence Tufts.
Married in 1998, they have been playing music for a living, together and separately, for more years they’ve been alive than not. After decades of live performance and creating separate recording projects, they have collaborated on a collection of instrumental works titled MOTHER LODE.
KEWT will be supported by Ottawa bassist John Geggie.
“Terry Tufts has a rare combination of musical talent, hometown charm and a clever sense of humour expressing creative originality as an entertainer thats tough to beat.”
KATHRYN BRIGGS began making music at the age of seven and it gradually became her life’s work. She spent her formative years learning from several eclectic teachers and then proceeded to establish a successful teaching career of her own. In October 2000 she released her first album of original piano works entitled ‘Small Awakenings’, an instrumental project produced by Ian Tamblyn. Performing her melodic piano creations for receptive audiences across Canada, her talents have also been shared as a keyboard player and backup vocalist with artists such as Laura Smith, the Inuit duo Tudjaat, Kelli Trottier, and of course, Terry. She arranged and performed the piano accompaniment for David Francey’s album CAROLS FOR A CHRISTMAS EVE.
TERRY TUFTS has been playing music for enjoyment since 1963 and as a profession for four decades. His technique is of the same school that created David Rea, Red Shea, John Fahey, Stephen Stills, and Leo Kottke. Born on Lake Erie in Gasline, Ontario, his talents have carried him all over the world where he has been employed by numerous artists in the studio and in live performance (Tom Paxton, David Francey, Colleen Peterson, Laura Smith, Ian Tamblyn, Bill Garrett & Sue Lothrop, The Arrogant Worms, Wayne Rostad, Susan Aglukark, Tracey Brown, and George Fox) for his abilities on a variety of instruments and vocals. He has 6 albums to his credit and has contributed to 4 compilation albums.
