“No flash, no fancy footwork. She sings it like she means it…Kennedy is that rare presence, a real jazz singer” George Fendel, Jazz Society of Oregon
Toronto-based vocalist Maureen Kennedy returns to GigSpace with some new songs to sing from her ever-expanding repertoire of standards and hidden gems. Once again she will be singing with Rob Frayne (saxophone), and from Montreal, Jeff Johnson (piano) and Alec Walkington (bass.)
“Maureen Kennedy’s subtle phrasing, steady intonation, and meticulous attention to interpretive detail makes this (Out of the Shadows) a superior Jazz/Cabaret CD, one of the year’s very best” Alan Bargebuhr, Cadence magazine
Maureen Kennedy has released two recordings on the Baldwin Street Music label, This Is Always, and Out of the Shadows. Her recordings have been played on the CBC, Jazz FM 91, on many NPR stations in the U.S. , WWOZ in New Orleans, and the PRI program Jazz After Hours. In 2017 she is looking forward to recording a new CD with Vancouver saxophonist Cory Weeds and New York pianist Tardo Hammer for Weeds’ label “Cellar Live.”
“A classic jazz singer with the black clothes 50s vibe running through her work, Kennedy brings enough heat to her native Canada to keep them from having more below zero days than they do. You like your thrushes classic and classy? Kennedy is on the money throughout.” Chris Spector, Midwest Record
