The last time that Mike, Peter, Alec and Andre have been on the same stage together was likely in 1988. Please join them for a special one-night-only concert at GigSpace.

Based in Vancouver since the mid-1990s, Mike Allen is one of Canada’s leading saxophonists, a former student of Joe Lovano and Joe Henderson who has performed and recorded with such greats as Sonny Greenwich, Kenny Wheeler, Don Thompson and Peter Leitch.

This powerful, lyrical and ceaselessly creative artist is originally from Kingston, Ontario, and he attended Queen’s University and then McGill University before spending the decade or so of his career in Montreal. Given that, his GigSpace concert will amount to a special reunion, allowing him to make music with some old friends who came up the ranks with him in Ontario and Quebec back in the day.

Ottawa pianist Peter Hum first played with Mike in the mid-1980s when he too attended Queen’s. Bassist Alec Walkington, who went to high school with Peter, was a roommate of Mike’s when all three of them lived in Montreal, and the young up-and-comers were part of a band that won the 1986 Lowenbrau Jazz Search and competed in the 1987 Montreal International Jazz Festival’s nation-wide competition, in which the band represented Quebec.

Montreal drummer Andre White, already a mentor and inspiration the award-winning band, subbed occasionally into it and went on play steadily with Alec for the last 30 years.

Since mid-1990s, Peter Hum has been a linchpin of the Ottawa jazz scene, where he plays with top local players such as Roddy Ellias, Petr Cancura, Mark Ferguson and John Geggie. He has two CDs under his name and is set to record a third album later this year.
Alec Walkington is one of Montreal’s top bassists and jazz educators, renowned for his big, steady beat. He has played with such visiting greats as Joe Henderson, Slide Hampton, Kenny Wheeler, Jimmy Heath, Curtis Fuller, Barry Harris and Maria Schneider.

Andre White is a Canadian jazz legend who dazzles equally on drums and piano. An associate profressor at McGill University, Andre has accompanied such jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Pepper Adams, Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, Steve Grossman, Sionny Greenwich, Sheila Jordan, Kirk MacDonald and Harold Mabern.
