The Two Tenors Project

Join this bi-generational group of seasoned and up-and-coming Ottawa jazz heavyweights for two spirited sets of modern originals by Peter Hum, Vince Rimbach and Chris Maskell plus covers by such greats as Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons and others who celebrate the tradition of double-tenor bands blowing long and strong.

Based in Ottawa, Petr Cancura received his Masters in Music from the New England Conservatory and subsequently moved to New York City where he spent the last decade with like-minded musical collaborators. Currently Petr Cancura serves as the Programming Manager at the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival.  He was an Artist In Residence at Carleton University for the year 2015-16 and curator and musical director of the National Arts Center’s Crossroads Series.

Born in Ottawa, Chris Maskell is an emerging artist who his working toward obtaining his Master’s degree in jazz performance at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. He has studied with Donny Kennedy, Frank Lozano, Remi Bolduc and Mike Tremblay. He has performed at the Ottawa, Montreal and Merrickville jazz festivals.

Pianist Peter Hum has been a mainstay of the Ottawa jazz scene since the early 1990s, when he moved back to his hometown following studied in Kingston, Montreal and then London, Ontario. He has released two albums of original modern mainstream jazz. His latest, Alpha Moment, was released in the fall of 2015, and in late 2010, he put out his debut recording, A Boy’s Journey. A self-taught jazz plater he has led or co-led groups that have included musicians such as Rob Frayne, John Geggie, Petr Cancura, Kenji Omae, Mike Rud, Ted Warren and Nick Fraser. In Ottawa and Kingston, he has accompanied visiting Canadian jazz greats including Pat LaBarbera, Sonny Greenwich, Phil Nimmons and Reg Schwager.

Alex Bilodeau (bass) and Michel Delage (drums) are two of the busiest young jazz players in Ottawa, playing in numerous groups that feature their peers and accompanying visiting musicians including Mike Rud, Allison Au and the great pianist Jean-Michel Pilc. Alex Bilodeau curates the Monday night jazz series at Le Petit Chicago in Hull, and Michel Delage oversees the monthly tribute concert series at the Options Jazz Lounge of the Brookstreet Hotel.
