Join trombonist Peter Turner and clarinettist Scott Poll as they play host to two of Toronto’s finest and most versatile jazzmen; pianist Peter Hill and drummer Glenn Anderson.
Long-time collaborators Scott Poll and Peter Turner are well-known to Ottawa jazz audiences and looking forward to teaming up with Hill and Anderson. The unusual “no-bass” quartet format is made possible by Hill’s solid Dave McKenna-style left hand bass lines supported by Anderson’s impeccable time feel.
Pianist Peter Hill has been an in demand sideman on the Toronto jazz scene for over a decade, playing with Alex Pangman and her Alleycats, The Laura Hubert Band, Sam Broverman, and sometimes with the late Jeff Healey’s Jazz Wizards. He is the on-call pianist for most of the “trad jazz” groups in town, and his swinging piano and rich horn arrangements have been heard across the scene. He released his own Peter Hill Quintet CD in 2009 and they perform at Toronto’s Rex Hotel regularly.
Glenn Anderson is the first-call drummer for vocalists and traditional jazz groups in the Greater Toronto Area. He has had a long career performing many styles of music in clubs, concerts, festivals, cruise ships, recordings, and television appearances with such notable artists as The Tom DeMoraes Orchestra, Melissa Stylianou and Slim’s Lucky Number, Alex Pangman, Big Rude Jake, The Chet Valiant Combo, New Orleans trumpeter Kevin Clark, guitarist Jake Langley, the Funky Boot Brass Band with trumpeters Jake Wilkinson and William Sperandei, vocalist Doreen Smith, guitarist Tony Quarrington, the Excelsior Jazz Band, The Hot Five Jazzmakers, Dinny and The All Stars, sensational vocal group Swing Rosie, country/blues artist Kim Doolittle, and Juno-nominated blues artist Georgette Fry.
