Roddy Ellias – guitar
Adrian Vedady -bass
Thom Gossage – drums
“Guitarist, composer, performer, improviser — Roddy Ellias draws from so many musical influences his work defies labels. As each piece unfolds it tells its own unique story — eclectic, intense, rhythmic, powerful, and ultimately human.”
As the trio prepares to record in Montreal later in November, we?re excited for this first time performance at GigSpace with our new drummer, Thom Gossage.
I love the musical and spontaneous interplay and the wide spectrum of moods, rhythms,
expression and colours that happen with Thom and Adrian and we?re looking forward to
sharing an evening of what we love to do with you and in one of our favourite venues for
About Roddy Elias – www.roddyellias.com
One of Canada’s most respected guitarists, Roddy is equally at home with contemporary new music, jazz, or classical repertoire. His dynamism as an artist and his consistent pursuit of harmonic and melodic adventure have made him a consummate musician. Known for his energetic performances and his thoughtful renditions of both new and existing works, he continues to surprise and delight his audiences. Last year he set the stage on fire in a series of duets with other guitarists, including Vic Juris, Gene Bertoncini, Lorne Lofsky, and David Occhipinti, showcasing his versatility and his generosity as a performer.
As an improviser, Roddy is one hot player, known for taking the music to unexpected places. The American guitarist and writer Matthew Warnock describes him this way: “as close to being a Zen master on the guitar as he can be.” Soulful, melodic, and compositional solos are his trademark, as well as a generous and sometimes mischievous spirit that brings out the best in the musicians he performs with.
Adrian Vedady – Double-bassist/composer Adrian Vedady has been playing with some of Montreal’s finest jazz musicians for the last 11 years. His career started shortly after commencing his jazz studies at Concordia University. Accompanying his professors, such as, Dave Turner, Charles Ellison, Andrew Homzy, Roddy Ellias and Jeri Brown on gigs and concerts he started to get a sense of his voice and was inspired to continue developing as a player.
In 2009, Vedady released his debut album as a leader, In Three Acts. It’s a culmination of his work as a musician to date. The album showcases his compositions and the musical collaboration of Yannick Rieu, Erik Hove, Richard White, Kate Wyatt, John Fraboni, Robbie Kuster and Philippe Melanson.
Thom Gossage has appeared on numerous c.d. s during his career as a composer and drummer/percussionist. He also directs his critically acclaimed group Other Voices, whose fifth c.d. His multiple collaborations with renowned musicians and his work with contemporary dance demonstrate his willingness to push the boundaries of his own artistic practice. A long term collaborator of Van Grimde Corps Secrets, Thom Gossage contributed as a composer and musical director artistic consultant on over ten dance pieces performed in Europe and North America.
