Back together after Evandro Gracelli’s long-awaited return from Brazil, Sol da capital will perform original works composed by Gracelli and musical partner and friend, Rachel Beausoleil. Since his return to Brazil over a year ago, Gracelli and Beausoleil have continued to compose together at a distance, and even performed together in São Paulo and Campinas. Their transnational music can be described as Brazilian jazz, with lyrics in English, French and Portuguese. Sol da capital will feature Rachel Beausoleil (vocal cords), Evandro Gracelli (guitar and vocals), Jasmin Lalande (woodwinds), Angel Araos (percussion), and special guest Emilio Martins (percussion).

Rachel Beausoleil is a Montreal native who has spent most of her adult life here in Ottawa. Aside from her passion for singing, songwriting, and teaching, this full-time mom is currently working on her doctorate in Cultural Mediations at Carleton University. As part of the Panamerica canção (Panamerican song) project, sponsored by University of São Paulo, she will be returning to Brazil in September 2013, to share her musical passions.
Evandro Gracelli made a splash in Ottawa while he was here in 2010-2011. His phenomenal musical spirit quickly made him one of the best-loved players in Ottawa’s jazz, Brazilian and Latino musical communities. He also shared his talents with groups in Montreal and Toronto. In Brazil, he juggles multiple musical projects that have him playing guitar, cavaquinho, banjo, mandolin, cello and voice in styles ranging from mainstream pop, to jazz, to improvised music for poetry and story-telling.
