Two musical friends come together to light up GigSpace!

Jazz vocalist Aubrey Johnson, from New York, and Ottawa based jazz pianist Steve Boudreau,  will be performing a widely varied mix of originals, jazz and improvised music. Everything from standards to Brazilian music and Björk.

Aubrey Johnson is a New York-based vocalist, composer, and educator who specializes in jazz, Brazilian, and creative contemporary music with and without words.  She holds a Master of Music degree in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory and is set to release her debut album under saxophonist Greg Osby’s new record label Inner Circle Music within the next year.  In 2011 she joined the voice department at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, becoming their youngest current voice teacher.   In 2012, she joined the faculty of the New England Conservatory as the director of the school’s vocal jazz ensemble.  In demand as both a side-person and a leader, Aubrey has performed and/or recorded with jazz greats Bobby McFerrin, Lyle Mays, Steve Rodby, Mark Walker, Paul McCandless, Fred Hersch, and Jimmy Cobb.

Steve Boudreau is an Ottawa-based pianist who specializes in jazz and popular music. He currently teaches piano privately and as part of Carleton University’s Music Performance program.  He also works frequently as a vocal accompanist in many genres. In 2010 he received a Master of Music degree in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory in Boston. He has toured North America with multiple musical productions and has performed as both leader and sideman at various Canadian jazz festivals. His current projects include original music for piano trio, collaborative original works for piano and voice, and getting deeper into the music of Oscar Peterson, Wayne Shorter, Northern India and Björk.
