In the decade since the first Trombone Summit at the Swan at Carp, Mark and Peter’s get-together has evolved into an annual event with a loyal following of brass enthusiasts and jazz aficionados of all stripes. Guitarist Tim Bedner provides the swinging accompaniment for the two trombonists. The trio’s choice of tunes, their keen attention to melody, and the fluid spontaneity of their soloing make the Trombone Summit a treat not to be missed.
Mark Ferguson is featured on “Monday Night at the Mensa Disco,” the new jazz/world release by Manteca. In addition to being one of Canada’s top jazz trombonists, he is a pianist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator. Peter Turner studied privately with Mark in the late-1980s and is active in various jazz groups in the Ottawa and Toronto areas. Tim Bedner is a performance instructor at Carleton University and in high demand as a guitarist for singers and instrumentalists. Last year, he released a CD of his own compositions entitled, “Of Light and Shadow.”
