Wilfried Touati and Christelle Raquillet will perform at GigSpace following their three days of performances and workshops at the «Carrefour Mondial de l'Accordéon» festival in Montmagny, Québec. France is home to this duo and they have performed in several French festivals plus concerts in Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany. They are very excited to perform in Canada as this is their first foray to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

 

About:

Through an anthology of original compositions in the colours of jazz and World music, Wilfried Touati and Christelle Raquillet offer you a suspended moment in their company. The first is on the accordion, the second on the flute and vocals; both build an ephemeral universe using instruments less commonly featured in jazz.

 

They create imaginary paintings that sometimes transport you to fabulous aquatic worlds, sometimes to immense plains with bright colours. Throughout  this musical exhibition, you will be able to hear a few songs from the Great American Songbook as revisited by this unique duo.

 

Combining compositions, songs and improvisation, these two musical partners constantly reinvent their music, inviting you on a refreshing journey from which you are sure to depart feeling light-hearted.

Bios:

An emerging musician on the Parisian scene, Christelle Raquillet travels with ease from jazz to classical music including free improvisation. In 2018, she joined Thierry Maillard's Big Band and participated in the recording of “Zappa Forever”, a double album in tribute to Frank Zappa with renowned guests Chris Potter, Gilad Hekselman, Stéphane Belmondo, Camille Bertault and David Linx.

Christelle has bachelor's degrees from the «Pôle Sup'93»and the «Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris», in jazz and classical music respectively. Both a flutist and singer, she performs regularly on the jazz scene in France («Jazz sous les Pommiers», «Jazz À Vienne», New Morning, «Salle Pleyel») and in Germany (Unterfahrt, Artheater), and within various groups and projects (Pierrick Pédron, Ishkero, Laurent Dehors, Laurent Coulondre), while exploring the electronic scene («Ours Samplus»), and is actively involved in projects combining music and cinema («Curieux Orchestre»).

A  graduate of «CRR 93» in classical music and jazz, Wilfried Touati participates in all types of projects, without setting musical  boundaries, ranging from solo performance to the symphony orchestra, as well as shows for children or theatrical plays.

In 2019, his musical experiences notably led him to accompany the Argentinian percussionist, Vivi Pozzebón, for her tour in Europe, and in 2022, he accompanied a masterclass in Chicago on the Cabaret, and participated in the album as well as at the Sho Ayanagi concerts in Tokyo. An arranger and composer, in 2018 he created the Wilfried Touati Quartet in which he performs his compositions in a mostly jazz and World music aesthetic.

This experience gave him a taste for being creative, and led him to create new projects, notably in a duet with Christelle Raquillet on flute and vocals as well as with Guillaume Retail on oboe and cor anglais.
