Laura’s recording and touring quintet features Jonathan Chapman (double bass), Sam Kirmayer (guitar), Valérie Lacombe (drums), and Masashi Usui (tenor saxophone).
Laura Anglade is a young Montreal-based jazz vocalist currently making a name for herself on the Montreal scene and beyond. Originally from a small village in the south of France and raised in Connecticut, Laura is influenced by her parents’ gypsy jazz and classical backgrounds. At just 23 years old, she has made a big impression on the Montreal jazz scene within the last couple of years. She has performed in a number of jazz festivals in the region including the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in 2017. Last year, Laura appeared at The Prince Edward County Jazz Festival and Merrickville’s Jazz Fest where she was an unqualified hit. She also performs regularly at jazz bars in Montreal as well as in special concert and corporate events, and has collaborated with established jazz artists such as David Lahm, Ranee Lee, Andre White, Jean-Michel Pilc and Alec Walkington. Laura’s style branches out from traditional jazz roots and some of her idols include Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Etta Jones, Anita O’Day, Chet Baker and Blossom Dearie but even at such a young age, she already has a signature style and sound that are all her own.
Laura is set to release her debut CD entitled I’ve Got Just About Everything at the end of June and will be on a week-long tour to promote the CD and meet new audiences. Laura has recently signed with Justin Time Records in Montreal. “We are very pleased to welcome up-and-coming jazz vocalist Laura Anglade to the Justin Time roster”, said founder and president Jim West. Laura’s recording and touring quintet features excellent musicians from Montreal including Jonathan Chapman on double bass, Valérie Lacombe on drums and Masashi Usui on tenor saxophone as well as guitarist Sam Kirmayer who is well-known to Ottawa audiences and who performed at GigSpace with his quartet in March to a sold-out house.
Those who have had the pleasure to see and hear Laura in concert can attest to how she draws in her audience not only with her sensitive interpretations and melodic approach to improvisation but with her demure and thoroughly engaging stage presence. Her manner on stage might at times be described as quiet and focused but when she digs emotionally and eloquently into a standard, her story-telling abilities portray a soul beyond her years: audiences are simply captivated by Laura. “I have heard only positive things about GigSpace” said Laura. “I am so thrilled that this project gets to take form there."
Don’t miss the chance to see a future jazz star in the making during this limited tour. GigSpace is the only Ottawa location for this special event and tickets will sell fast.
